The first project is to create a three panel ink drawing on illustration board which simplifies a photograph or object. The first panel of the simplified drawing shows enough information about the object the viewer that the object is recognizeable. The second panel in the drawing is a zoomed in version of a certain area of the first panel. The object may be still recognizeable and the area of focus begins to capture a unique composition and some details of the first panel. The third panel is zoomed in even farther and now the composition is no longer recognizeable without looking at the first two panels. This is known as an abstraction. The composition is balanced and desireable, breaking the image into simplified shapes.
Project I: Object Simplification: The project is designed to explore the process of design, sketching out some ideas before working on the final project. Also learning some techniques of transfering drawings from the sketchbook to paper and ultimately illustration board. Learning to use transfer paper, 4H pencils, cleanup work and inking techniques are all part of this project.
